How are you doing?
I’m Wahida and I am a Muslim Malaysian living in Japan.
I want to share my experience travelling to GALA Yuzawa using a travel package （Tokyo Rail Days＝TRD） product by JR East Japan and is available in Singapore.
You can buy TRD from selected travel agency in Singapore.
TRD is a travel package of unlimited transportation pass within Kanto area for three days and activities.
When you buy TRD from the agency, you can select the place to receive it, e.g. at the airport, your accommodation, and your host family’s house in Japan!
EASY BUY! EASY TRY! EASY GO!
GALA Yuzawa station is directly connected to Ski Center. After you arrived, go to the ticket counter to exchange your voucher to a ticket.
You can line up at the counter with your preferred language.
GALA Yuzawa has some counters for many languages. Exchange your gondola voucher here too.
View in front of the ticket gate. You can see a big Concierge board. In peak hour, the staff will be there and you can go there to change your voucher to a ticket.
If there is no staff at the Concierge counter, please go to another counter. Normally you can exchange vouchers or buy tickets here.
View from gondola. Nice weather!
Besides winter sports, you can play sled and snow at the playground area or join Kanjiki Walking Tour (with additional price).
Even if you can’t play skiing or snowboarding, you can still enjoy snow with these activities!
Sled rental is available on your left when you exit gondola station.
Snow playground is located next to sled playground.
For Kanjiki Walking Tour, you will walk through natural snow mountain and put on traditional Japanese snow shoes called Kanjiki with guide. If you’re lucky, you might be able to see wild rabbits and wild Japanese deer. The snow is definitely softer than at snow playground and you’ll see mesmerizing view of snow mountains from the viewpoint. The guide will explain to you about local Yuzawa area and the mountains that can be seen from viewpoint. Don’t worry about the language because the friendly guide can explain in understandable English.
I really recommend you to join this tour.
Snow playground. You can play snow war, build a snowman etc.

I will introduce the facilities available in GALA Yuzawa.
1) Rental counter
If you’ve opted for rental when you bought TRD, you will receive application form with your vouchers. Fill it out in advance and go straight to the rental counter to save time. If you worry about the sizes, you can refer at English desk.
You can always change your Equipment if it doesn’t fit.
When you receive your rental wear, you MUST keep the copy of your application form because you will need it to return your rental.
If you’re using a sled, you can receive the sled token (card) here and exchange with your sled at central area on the mountain.
2) Changing room and locker area.
You can buy a locker ticket at the ticket counter or machine outside of changing room.
The changing rooms are just next to the rental counter.
There are two type of changing room in GALA Yuzawa. One is separate woman and man type at 2F.
The other is for families on the 3F and you can share one locker with your family. There are also separate changing rooms for women and men, so you can change the clothes here too.
3) Prayer space
GALA Yuzawa has a prayer space in Ski Center Cowabunga.
4) Child day care at CHEERS
For parents, child day care is available with additional price at Cheers.
Diaper changing station is also available next to day care room.
These are located at 2F of Cheers building.
You can also check your height and shoes size.I think this is very helpful since shoes size system is different with Japan.
Rental counter line: The end of time for renting wear or gear is shown at the end of the line. It is usually around 15:45PM so make sure to come here earlier than it.
You can buy locker ticket from this machine if you haven’t bought them at ticket counter. This one is in front of woman changing room entrance

For this post, I want to share with you a restaurant and a menu.
There are restaurants available at Ski Center Cowabunga and Cheers.
All the restaurants have menus with allergy pictograms in GALA Yuzawa.
So you can check and choose a cuisine by referring to that.
Unfortunately there are no halal certified menus in GALA Yuzawa. The menu/food is checked and chosen solely based on ingredients and allergy pictogram. Please check with restaurant staff if you have any questions and consume at your own discretion.
You can buy a snack such as ice cream at Cheers 2F Blue Seal. There are varieties of ice cream flavor to choose from and their specialty is flavor from Okinawa. You can buy a ticket from vending machine and give it to the staff.
Since my trip started early in the morning, I bought my breakfast at NewDays convenience store inside Tokyo station.
Because the journey is about 75 minutes, I recommend to buy some snacks and drinks to have on the train.
Tuna Mayo Onigiri and vegetable juice.
I’ve checked the ingredients on the label. For example, pork or alcohol are non halal food can be contained in your food, even if the Origiri is said “seafood Onigiri”
I’ve decided this Onigiri at NewDays is edible for me.
When you buy some food, you need to check every time because ingredients can be changed every season and sometimes pork, non halal meat and alcohol is included in the ingredients even if the Onigiri is seafood Onigiri.
Simple tips to unwrap an Onigiri:
Follow the step accordingly and you will open them nicely.①→②→③
So, good luck when you try to unwrap one!
